Fitou
As the oldest red appellation in the region (since 1948), Fitou encompasses about 500 producers and only produces red wines.Located between Narbonne and Spain, the appellation’s range contains nine villages in two distinct terroirs: one in the inland areas near Corbières, the other on the seashore where the Mourvèdre varietal is very suitable.
Along with the other major authorized varietals Grenache, Carignan and Syrah, it produces robust red wines with complex aromas of dark berries (blackberries and black currants), leather, grilled almonds and black pepper.
Eleven months of aging is mandatory in order to claim this AOC.
